THE GUIDING OBJECTIVES OF THE
KAUAI HIGH SCHOOL FOUNDATION

 GUIDING OBJECTIVE I
Kauai High School

To ensure that the Foundation supports the needs of Kauai High School according to the following:

A.     Serve as a liaison and vehicle for direct communication with the faculty and administration to help determine financial support and priorities for the variety of programs and activities.

B.     Recognize and comprehend the financial requirements for stated programs and projects, while underscoring the valuable role of the Foundation in helping to contribute positively to the student learning process and experience.

C.     Provide funding, when possible, for individual and cluster scholastic programs, curricular activities, physical campus and classroom improvements, and learning and training opportunities for students, faculty and other school personnel.

D.     Maintain the Mission of the Foundation by serving the school with respect, integrity and distinction.

GUIDING OBJECTIVE II
Donors and Participants

To ensure that all Donors, Friends and Alumni are made aware of the Foundation’s activities, and that ethical and professional standards will be maintained in the fiscal operations of the organization according to the following:

A.     Maintain a consistent and reliable program of acknowledgment and gratitude to every single donor to ensure confidence and participation.

B.     Provide recognition of the contributions of Donors, Friends and Alumni.

C.     Maintain a strong, on-going relationship within the community including business owners, presidents and officers of corporations, political leaders, community organizations, and other educational institutions.

D.     Maintain a strong, on-going program with Alumni by communicating regularly with “Points of Contact” from each graduating class in an effort to encourage stronger participation and contributions.

E.      Maintain constant communications, including regular publicity programs, to keep donors and others informed of major contributions and other news-making activities.

GUIDING OBJECTIVE III
Governance and Organization

To ensure that the Foundation, a non-profit corporation, will operate by the principles established in its Mission Statement and adhere to all applicable federal and state laws and regulations according to the following:

A.     Remain in good standing with the Internal Revenue Service and the Hawaii State Department of Taxation and Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs, and be prepared for any necessary reviews or audits called for by any authorized government entity.

B.     Maintain a sound accounting system along with current financial books and records, and current, timely and accurate internal controls by a certified public accountant.

C.     Review the responsibilities and obligations of all Board of Directors and other volunteers regularly and encourage team work, strong communications and periodic training in order to sustain processes for advancing the Foundation.

D.     Avert, with all due care, liability potentials and unnecessary risks by avoiding commitments beyond the Foundation’s capacity, adherence to its conflict of interest policies, and dutiful and responsible compliance with donors’ wishes on how money is spent.

E.      Maintain a responsible annual operating budget supported by detailed support for moneys needed to run the Foundation and a realistic projection of receipts.

F.      Keep all activities of the Board of Directors, including information and reports, open and transparent to and all parties.

G.     Maintain an active Board of Directors with established term limits.

H.     Keep abreast of all applicable laws and regulations through consultation and training from practicing lawyers, accountants and experts in the non-profit field.

I.        Keep and maintain strict records for endowments established at the Foundation by individuals and organizations.

J.       Serve as a bridge between Kauai High School and the communities that it serves allowing for active donor participation and involvement by interested parties.

K.    Encourage a diversity of thoughts, ideas and contributions from those in the communities that the high school serves.

GUIDING OBJECTIVE IV
Donor Development and Fundraising

To maintain a quality development program and active fundraising activities for the Foundation according to the following:

A.     Maintain a regular databank of Donors, Friends and Alumni.

B.     Maintain a continuing fundraising program of projects, including annual giving opportunities.

C.     Apply for federal and state grants applicable to the Foundation.

D.     Work actively with all Class “Points of Contact” for disseminating Foundation information and soliciting donations.

E.      Continuously work to create funding sources by developing and maintaining contacts among Donors, Friends, Alumni and Corporate Benefactors.

GUIDING OBJECTIVE V
Volunteer Leaders

To ensure that the Volunteer Leaders who serve on the Board of Directors and in other capacities as Committee Chairs, Team Members, Advisors, Associates, and others, find fellowship and worth in their association with the Foundation according to the following:

A.     Strive to inculcate in all Volunteers the need to “have fun” and maintain a spirit of camaraderie and team work while working hard to follow the Foundation’s Mission and meet its various Objectives.

B.     Continually strive to encourage new member participation on the Board of Directors and its various committees and subcommittees.

C.     Strive for compatibility and cooperation among Volunteers by making them aware of the Foundation’s annual goals and objectives in concert with the organization’s Mission and Guiding Objectives.

D.     Maintain a strong, independent and on-going Board of Directors that will provide consistent, reliable and appropriate support to the school.
